When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States in March of 2020, none of us could have known the level of disruption we would be facing. In addition to the reality of illness and death, we also had to face a new way of going about our daily lives. Our daily routines were shattered and reformed to meet health protocols. Work, school, worship, community, sports, culture—every aspect of life was shaken. Now, more than a year later, our world is opening up once again. We’re heading back to the office, back to school, back to our faith communities. But after a year away, are we ready to show up?
In this episode of Persuasion, Erin Straza and Hannah Anderson kick off a new series called Showing Up. Each episode will explore the challenges we face to show up in the world. Being in relationship with others requires vulnerability—and we’ve gotten out of practice. The pandemic limited many of our face-to-face interactions to those within our family bubble, which means we’ve been able to disengage from differing ideas and values. As we make our way back into community, we need to reconsider what it means to show up with the fullness of ourselves: our ideas, our faith, our hearts. This is no small task. How do we re-enter a world that is at odds with our faith? Is it possible to bring our whole selves to others without risking our feelings or status? What can we do to deepen our connection to those we’ve not been in regular contact with since last year? Listen in for dialogue on questions like these as we learn how to show up together. Then continue the conversation on Twitter @PersuasionCAPC or in the CAPC members-only community on Facebook.
